GOLF QUOTE

Drugs are very much a part of professional sports today, but when you think about it, golf is the only sport where the players aren't penalized for being on grass.

The Games We Play

Regular Tuesday Tournaments - visit the "Calendar" page for the dates.

Below is a list of tournament formats that we play on our regular Tuesday game. The format is usually announced via email to all players the week before. The different formats allow you to not only compete individually, but also as a team, which makes it fun and rewarding.

The entry fee for the regular Tuesday Tournament is $ 8.00 USD (paid to the CVGA organizer) plus your green fees (paid at the Club House before your start playing). Players need to arrive at 6:45 a.m. We start playing around 7:00 a.m.

Stableford

A Stableford is a format that can be played as an individual or team competition.  In a stableford, your handicap determines the number of strokes (if any) that you get off your gross score on each hole. Points awarded reflect the difference between the Net Score of the player against the par of each particular hole.

Below is the CVGA Stableford point system:

• Double Eagle: 5 points
• Eagle: 4 points
• Birdie: 3 points
• Par: 2 points
• Bogey: 1 point
• Double Bogey or Worse: 0 points

Modified Stableford

A Modified Stableford competition is a golf tournament in which you must score the highest to win.  That's because in a Modified Stableford, golfers are awarded points based on their scores in relation to a fixed score at each hole.

A Modified Stableford is different from a stableford.  The points you earn on a hole are based on your Gross Score against the par of each particular holes.

Below is the CVGA Modified Stableford point system:

• Double Eagle: 16 points
• Eagle: 8 points
• Birdie: 4 points
• Par: 2 points
• Bogey: 1 point
• Double Bogey or Worse: 0 points

Two-Person Scramble

A Two-Person Scramble is a competition format that is exactly what it sounds like: a scramble in which the teams consist of two players each. After the best of the two player's shots is selected, both players play from that spot, until the ball is holed. One team score is recorded.

Under this format, each player is required to contribute three drives per side. The team's handicap is 30% of the combined handicaps and the maximum handicap difference between partners is 12 strokes.

Chapman (Pinehurst) Two-Person Team

Each partner plays from the teeing ground and then, each plays his partner's ball for the second shot. After the second shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score, and play that ball alternately to complete the hole. On par-3s after the tee shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and play the ball alternately to complete the hole.

The team's handicap is 30% of the combined handicaps and the maximum handicap difference between partners is 12 strokes.

Two-Person Best Ball

In a Best Ball tournament, members of each team play their ball on each hole. At the completion of the hole, the lowest score among all the team members serves as the team score.

The team's handicap is 30% of the combined handicaps and the maximum handicap difference between partners is 12 strokes.

Modified Best Ball - Two-Person Team

In this format, the Two-Person Team will be playing a combination of three distinct formats. The first six holes will be played Scramble (each player is required to contribute two drives), the following six will be played Best Ball, and the last 6 will be played Chapman (Pinehurst).

The team's handicap is 30% of the combined handicaps and the maximum handicap difference between partners is 12 strokes.

Stroke Play - aka Medal Play

Stroke play refers to a round of golf in which the score is kept by adding the cumulative total of strokes taken throughout the round. Stroke play is different from match play, but means the same thing as medal play.

Under this format, we will be using 100% of your handicap.

CVGA Texas Scramble (The event formerly known as the Bar Tournament)
visit the "Calendar" page for the dates.

The entry fee for the Texas Scramble is $ 41.00 USD per player and includes green fees and drinks on the course. The format for the Texas Scramble is a three-person scramble using 10% of the combined team handicap. Each player is required to provide five tee shots. Players need to arrive before 7:00 a.m. There is a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.

You do not need to be on an established team to participate. We always form extra teams with extra players.
