Texas Scramble
Today we played our first Texas Scramble of 2010 and we
had twenty-four (24) teams.
In today’s event, we had two opposing three-person teams
play together to insure that the rules were followed, the minimum
numbers of drives per player (five) were met, and the proper scores were
recorded.
For 2010, we returned to the old scramble format where
all players hit each shot after a drive is selected. We still have the
twelve stroke restriction on the players handicaps (within a team),
based on the lowest handicapped player. A 20 handicap player can play
with a 4 handicap player, but the 20 would be reduced to 16 (several
teams had their handicap adjusted today using this rule). And, we still
use 15% of the combined team handicap to determine the net score of each
team.
Also, for 2010, we have an A and a B flight in each Texas
Scramble. The top three teams in each flight will win prizes (each
player of the winning team in each flight will be awarded a free round
of golf at VDS). Team handicaps will determine the flight you are in.
The lowest one-half of the teams will be placed in the A flight. If we
have an odd number of teams then a coin toss will determine the flight
that team is placed.
Today the A flight teams had net handicaps from 2.25 to
7.5, while the B flight ranged from 7.9 to 12.25.
Today’s results (gross, net and points for team of the
year) are:

Hole in one pool
The hole in one pool is frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The next
person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in one in
the same event will split the money). A hole in one must be on a par
three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the hole
in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments and
Cariari-CVGA events. Finally, a normal par four or par five hole that
has been temporarily change to a par three (due to any reason) does not
qualify for the hole in one pool.
The new hole in one pool is now frozen at $2,500.00 USD
and will be awarded for a hole in one after the first $2,500.00 has been
paid.
The
third hole in one pool is now $274.00 USD. After all the leftover
raffle prizes from 2009 have been exhausted we may start raffling off
excess pool cash in our weekly tournaments.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
