CVGA - Cariari Stableford
Tuesday, January 12, we will be playing an individual “stableford”.
In a “stableford” your handicap determines the number of strokes (if
any) that you get off your gross score on each hole. In a stableford, a
net bogey is one point, a net par is two points, a net birdie is three
points, a net eagle is four points and a net double eagle is five
points. If you play to your handicap, you should have 36 points at the
end of the round.
You can make your own foursomes and begin play as early
as 6:15 a.m. The last group will tee off no later than 7:20 a.m. If
you are at the course before the last group goes off, you will be able
to play.
Cariari-CVGA results
Today 17 CVGA players and 5 Cariari members played a
modified stableford at the Cariari. Heavy winds and a lot trees took
its toll on our scores. The results are:
1st- Laurie Robichaud +5
2nd- Jim Sidwell +2
3rd- Phil Franz +1
4th- Henry de Castro -2
So you know the rules, eh
ANAGOLF is having three members of the R&A (Royal and
Ancient) rules committee present a three-day seminar on the rules of
golf this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here is the information:
San Jose (January 4, 2010) – The Costa Rica Golf
Association (ANAGOLF) is proud to present and host for the first time
ever a Rules School by The R&A. The event will bring some of the R&A’s
top instructors to our nation, January 15-17, 2010.
The R&A representatives are led by Mr. Alan Holmes,
Chairman R&A Rules of Golf Committee. He will also be joined by Christ
Hilton, Member R&A Rules of Golf Committee, and by Kevin Barker, R&A
Assistant Director-Rules.
The experienced trio of instructors will conduct lessons
on and off the course at the Cariari Country Club, which will serve as
host of this great learning experience. The two and a half days School
is intended for Rules Officials and golfers wishing to improve on their
knowledge of the Rules of Golf.
“ANAGOLF is delighted to host an event of this caliber
for the first time ever. The R&A Rules School is a wonderful learning
opportunity for our officials and golfers. Hopefully many of them will
take advantage of it,” said Sadaat Awan, ANAGOLF’s General Manager.
Costa Rica will be the only Central American nation welcoming this
event, which you may enter by paying an entry fee of only US $150. Such
fee includes materials, opening dinner, two lunches and five coffee
breaks.
For more information please contact ANAGOLF: Phone No.
2291-2161 or 2231-4430.
By the way, USGA writes and interprets the rules of golf
in conjunction with the R&A.

Hole in one pool
The hole in one pool is frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The next
person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in one in
the same event will split the money). A hole in one must be on a par
three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the hole
in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments and
Cariari-CVGA events. Finally, a normal par four or par five hole that
has been temporarily change to a par three (due to any reason) does not
qualify for the hole in one pool.
The new hole in one pool is now frozen at $2,500.00 USD
and will be awarded for a hole in one after the first $2,500.00 has been
paid.
The third hole in one pool is now $146.50 USD. After all
the leftover raffle prizes from 2009 have been exhausted we may start
raffling off excess pool cash in our weekly tournaments.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
