- Two-Person Best Ball
Today, the CVGA played a two-person best ball at Valle
Del Sol and we had forty (40) players. Players were able to choose
their own partners but the higher handicapped player was reduced in
handicap to within twelve stokes of the better player. Also, each player
had to contribute three net scores per side. The A flight (10 teams)
had combined handicaps of 38 and under, while the B flight (10 teams)
had combined handicaps at or above 39.
Today’s results (net and points towards player of the
month and player of the year) are:
A flight
1st- Norman Sklar and Larry Goldman (56, 6
points)
2nd- Randy Lundy and Dan Chiverton (57, 4
points)
3rd- Phil Franz and Sandi Wagner (60, 3
points)
B flight
1st- Al Zakowski and Charlie Graves (56, 6
points)
2nd- Mark Driscoll and Alex Ullrich (57, 4
points)
3rd- Skip Duranczyk and Bob Macellaro (59, 3
points)
Norman Sklar (normally a solid 19 handicap) shot a 78
today. That’s a great round but he should have waited until next week
(he’s on my team, “Methes”). Now I have to lower his handicap. Thanks
Norm.
Sandi Wagner won lunch at Brad’s Grille in Lindora for
closest to the pin on #17. Only first and second place in each flight
will be paid.
Next week is the Texas Scramble
Tuesday, March 2, is the second Texas Scramble point
tournament of 2010. The cost per player is 30 mil colones (13
mil for active monthly members). This is the same price as November
2009 and includes green fees, all drinks on the course, long drive
holes, four closest to the pin holes and the hole in one pool. Carts
and/or caddies are not included in the entry fee.
There
will be an A and B flight in each Texas Scramble.
The top three teams in each flight will win prizes (each player of the
winning team in each flight will be awarded a free round of golf at VDS).
Team handicaps will determine the flight you are in. The lowest
one-half of the teams will be placed in the A flight. If we have an odd
number of teams then a coin toss will determine the flight that team is
placed.
Be at the course before 7 a.m. There will be a shotgun
start at 7:30 a.m. New players, or those without a team, should come
join us. We will always have extra players looking to form new teams.
As long as you are at the course prior to 7 a.m., you will be playing in
our Texas Scramble.
Here are the rules for
this Texas Scramble:
Three-person
teams
Two
teams per hole
Five
drives per player
All players hit all
shots (like the old format)
15%
of the combined team handicap
The
handicap of the best player on the team determines the handicap of the
other two players.
The limit between the best player and the others is twelve strokes. A
player with a 10 handicap can choose to play with a 24 and 30, but the
24 and 30 will be reduced to 22 and 22.
Player of the month
Randy Lundy is the player of the month for February
2010. Randy had 20 points, followed by Dan Chiverton with 13 and Bob
Macellaro with 9. The player of the month receives a free round of
golf, courtesy of Valle Del Sol golf course. Congratulations Randy.
Hole in one pool
The hole in one pool is frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The
next person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in
one in the same event will split the money). A hole in one must be on a
par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the
hole in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments and
Cariari-CVGA events. Finally, a normal par four or par five hole that
has been temporarily change to a par three (due to any reason) does not
qualify for the hole in one pool.
The new hole in one pool is now frozen at $2,500.00 USD
and will be awarded for a hole in one after the first $2,500.00 has been
paid.
The third hole in one pool is now $481.50 USD. Starting
March 9, $25 of the third pool will be raffled each week until there is
a hole in one.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
