February 16, 2010 -  Two-Person Scramble

Today the CVGA played a two-person scramble at Valle del Sol and we had forty-two (42) players.  Thirty percent of the combined team handicap was used as a reduction from the gross score.  Players were able to choose their own partners but the higher handicapped player was reduced in handicap to within twelve stokes of the better player.  The A flight (10 teams) had team handicaps of 11.1 or less and the B flight (11 teams) had team handicaps at or above 11.7.

Today’s results (gross, net and points towards player of the month and player of the year) are:

A flight

1st- Randy Lundy and John Walker (68, -10.9, 6 points)

2nd- Mike Daughtry and Ed Dobler (72, -9.3, 4 points)

3rd- Jim Goss and Larry Goldman (74, -9.1, 3 points)

B flight

1st- Myles Cunningham and Al Burgess (76, -9.5, 6 points)

2nd- Bill Jones and Gary Luedke (77, -6.7, 4 points)

3rd- Alex Ulrich and Ida Gorn (85, -5.0, 3 points)

We had three raffle prizes today.  John Leggio won a voucher at Esthetic Dental Center, Mike Daughtry won a voucher at Esthetic Dental Center and Bryan Hopwood won a voucher for www.AcupunctureCostaRica.com  .

Only first and second place in each flight will be paid.

Next week’s format

Tuesday, February 23, we are playing a two-person best ball, requiring three scores per player per side.  The players will be using 100% of their handicap.  Play begins at 6:15 a.m. and the last group will tee off no later than 7:20 a.m.

Hole in one pool

The hole in one pool is frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The next person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in one in the same event will split the money).  A hole in one must be on a par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome.  Also, the hole in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments and Cariari-CVGA events.  Finally, a normal par four or par five hole that has been temporarily change to a par three (due to any reason) does not qualify for the hole in one pool.

The new hole in one pool is now frozen at $2,500.00 USD and will be awarded for a hole in one after the first $2,500.00 has been paid.

The third hole in one pool is now $432.00 USD.  After all the leftover raffle prizes from 2009 have been exhausted we may start raffling off excess pool cash in our weekly tournaments.

See you on the course,

David Maddox
