CVGA Texas Scramble
Today we played our
fifth Texas Scramble of 2009 and we had twenty-one (21) teams.
In today’s event, we
had two opposing three-person teams play together to insure that the
rules were followed, the minimum numbers of drives per player (four)
were met, and the proper scores were recorded.
For 2009, we decided
that no player could contribute two consecutive shots on a hole unless
the ball was on the green. Once on the green, all the players were able
to putt. We also placed a twelve stroke restriction on the players
handicaps, based on the lowest handicapped player. A 20 handicap player
could play with a 4 handicap player, but the 20 would be reduced to 16
(several teams had their handicap adjusted today using this rule).
Finally, we raised the percentage of handicap used to determine the net
score from 10% to 15%.
Also, for 2009,
we have an A and a B flight in each Texas Scramble.
The top three teams in each flight will win prizes (each player
of the winning team in each flight will be awarded a free round of golf
at VDS). Team handicaps will determine the flight you are in. The
lowest one-half of the teams will be placed in the A flight. If we have
an odd number of teams then a coin toss will determine the flight that
team is placed.
Today the A flight
teams had combined handicaps between 18 and 55, while the B flight
ranged from 56 to 73.

Format for next
week
Tuesday, June 23,
we will be playing an individual “stableford”. In a “stableford” your
handicap determines the number of strokes (if any) that you get off your
gross score on each hole. In a stableford, a net bogey is one point, a
net par is two points, a net birdie is three points, a net eagle is four
points and a net double eagle is five points. If you play to your
handicap, you should have 36 points at the end of the round.
You can make your
own foursomes and begin play as early as 6:15 a.m. The last group will
tee off no later than 7:20 a.m. If you are at the course before the
last group goes off, you will be able to play.
Hole
in one pool
The hole in one
pool is frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The next person to have a “hole in one”
wins that pool (multiple holes in one in the same event will split the
money). A hole in one must be on a par three hole and witnessed by all
those in the foursome. Also, the hole in one pool is only available in
our Valle Del Sol tournaments and Cariari-CVGA events.
The new hole in one
pool is now $1,323.00 and will be awarded for a hole in one after the
$2,500.00 has been won.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
