Stroke Play
Today we played stroke play and we only had twenty-four
(24) players in attendance. Normally, we average forty or more players
but this is the time of the year when many are in the U.S., Canada or on
vacation.
In almost all of our formats we have A and B flights.
However, in 2009 we added a C flight in stroke play events only. The A
flight is for players with a 15 or less handicap, B flight is for
players with handicaps from 16 to 22, and C flight is for handicaps 23
or greater. The C flight gives our newer and/or higher handicapped
players a chance to place in a stroke play event.
Today’s results (gross, net and points towards Player of
the Month and Player of the Year) are:
A flight
1st- Michael Hawkins (75, 67, 6 points)
2nd- Sandi Wagner (80, 68, 4 points)
3rd- Mike Daughtry (80, 69, 3 points)
B flight
1st- Larry Goldman (90, 69, 6 points)
2nd- Dick MacAuley (91, 70, 4 points)
3rd- Bill Jones (92, 73, 3 points)
C flight
1st- Gary Giampapa (89, 64, 6 points)
2nd- Ron Rodriguez (98, 70, 4 points)
3rd- Andre Tessier (98, 73, 3 points)
Ties are broken as per USGA rules using net scores on the
last nine, last six, last three and last hole (#18). Because of the low
turnout, only first and second place in each flight will be paid.
Gary Giampapa won closest to the pin on #5 today and
receives a free lunch at the Brad’s Grille in Momentum Mall in Lindora.
Next week’s format
Tuesday, August 11, we are playing a two-person
scramble. You can pick your own partner but the twelve-stroke rule is
in place. The tournament will be flighted and 30% of the team handicap
will be used as a reduction. The first group goes off at 6:15 a.m. and
the last will tee off no later than 7:20 a.m.
Los Delfines/Playa Tambor golf vacation
Our next trip to Los Delfines and Playa Tambor is
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 18, 19 and 20.
The cost per player is $190 and includes two
night’s room (double occupancy), tax, tip, all food and drinks at
the Barcelo Playa Tambor. It also includes three days unlimited golf
(with cart) at Los Delfines. Transportation is not included.
If you have a non-golfing guest staying in your room, the
cost is an additional $130. If you want a private room, the additional
cost is $50.
Also, if you wish to spend an extra night at the Barcelo,
we have rooms reserved for Thursday. The additional cost is $65 per
person (double occupancy) or $90 for a single room. However, golf on
Friday is not included.
This will be our fourth trip in the past nine months and
we always have a great time. Send me an email at
maddox@racsa.co.cr if you want to join us. I will send you
instructions on how to make a deposit into my Scotia account.
A hole in one today
Bill Holter, CVGA player and member of the Kick-Ass
Coffee team, had a hole in one on #7 today. However, Bill was not
playing in our stroke play format and did not win the $2,500 pool.
Bill used a 25 degree utility club to ace the hole off
the new black tees (189 yards). Needless to say, his caddie was rather
upset that he had not played with us. However, I believe most of our
players are happy about his ace and that our pool survived another week.
Congratulations Bill.
Hole in one pool
The hole in one pool is now frozen at $2,500.00 USD. The
next person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in
one in the same event will split the money). A hole in one must be on a
par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the
hole in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments and
Cariari-CVGA events.
The
new hole in one pool is now $1681.50 and will be awarded for a hole in
one after the $2,500.00 has been paid.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
