Two-Person Scramble
Today, we played a
two-person scramble and we had forty (40) players. Our players were
able to choose their own partners in this competition and 30% of the
team handicap was used as a reduction off their gross scores. If the
handicap difference between the two players was greater than twelve
strokes, the higher handicapped player was lowered. Using the team
handicaps, the tournament was flighted (one-half in the “A” and one-half
in the “B” flight). The A flight (10 teams) were 9.9 and below, while
the B flight (10 teams) were 10.2 or higher.
Today’s results
(gross, net and points towards POTM and POTY) are:
A Flight
1st-
Michael Hawkins and Nick Costas (65, -14.8, 6 points each)
2nd-
Reinhard Sievert and Robert Hudson (71, -9.4, 4 points each)
3rd- Jeff
McLaughlin and Mike Wallace (72, -9.3, 3 points each)
Others: -9.2 to
–3.7
B Flight
1st-
Randy Scott and Shawn Blakeman (72, -10.2, 6 points each)
2nd-
Paulie Gurciullo and John Kendall (73, -9.8, 4 points each)
3rd- John
Snyder and Myles Cunningham (75, -8.7, 3 points each)
Others: -8.2 to
+1.9
Next week’s
format
Tuesday, June 10,
we will be playing a two-person Chapman (alternate) shot format. This
is the third format of the modified best ball format that we regularly
play. However, this time we will be playing it all eighteen holes. You
can pick your own partner, but the twelve-stroke rule will apply. If
your handicaps have a difference greater than twelve, then the higher
handicapped player will be adjusted down to within twelve strokes of
his/her partner. This tournament will be flighted and 30% of the team
handicap will be used as a reduction. The first group will tee off #1
at 6:20 a.m. and the last group will go off no later than 7:20.
Here are the
instructions on how to play a two-person Chapman (also known as a
Pinehurst):
On all par-four and
par-five holes: Each player hits a tee shot. The players switch balls,
and play the other player’s ball for the second shots. After the second
shots are played, select one of the two balls, and play alternate shot
for the remainder of the hole until the ball is holed. If player “A” hit
the second shot on the ball that was selected, then player “B” is the
first to play the alternate shot portion of the hole. If player “B”
hit the second shot on the ball that was selected, then player “A” is
the first to play the alternate shot portion.
On all par-three
holes: Each player hits a tee shot. Then select the ball you wish to
play. If player A hit the drive selected, then player B is the first to
play the alternate shot portion of the hole. If player “B” hit the
drive selected, then player “A” is the first to play the alternate shot
portion of the hole.
Once a ball has
been selected that ball must be played until it is holed out. You can
lift, clean and place the ball, but only within ONE SCORECARD of its
original position. If the ball is in casual water then take the nearest
relief.
IMPORTANT- if your
tee shot is in the water or out-of-bounds, then your partner hits a ball
for you (from the drop area or tee) and that ball is laying three. If
you choose to play that ball it is your shot (and you are hitting the
fourth shot).
As always, there
will be printed instructions available on Tuesday. This is a fun but
very challenging format.
VDS closed this
Saturday
The course will be
closed until about 1:30 p.m. this Saturday (June 7) for a private
tournament.
Hole in one pool
Today, we had 40
players in the pool and there were no holes in one. The pool for next
week is now $962.50 USD. A hole in one must be on a par three hole and
witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the hole in one pool is
only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
