GOLF QUOTE

A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers, neither of whom can putt very well.

January 22, 2008 - Two Person Best Ball

Today’s format for the Central Valley Golf Association was a two-person best ball and we had fifty-two (52) players. In our best ball format, each player plays his/her own ball from tee to green, using 100% of his/her handicap as a reduction on each hole (if applicable).  The better net score of the two partners is recorded on each hole. In this format, players were able to choose their own partner, but the twelve-stroke rule was in effect.  This tournament was flighted.  The A flight (thirteen teams) had combined handicaps of 33 or less, while the B flight (also thirteen) had combined handicaps of 34 or more.

Today’s results (net score and points for POTM and POTY) are:

A Flight

1st- Sandi Wagner and Gary Giampapa (58, 6 points each)

2nd- Paulie Gurciullo and Reinhard Sievert (59, 4 points each)

3rd- Bryan Hopwood and John Vann (64, 3 points each)

Others: 64 but lost tiebreaker to 72

B Flight

1st- Larry Goldman and Jerry Haws (59, 6 points each)

2nd- Dick MacAuley and Carson Fosbo (60, 4 points each)

3rd- Bill Lessley and Bruce Kniegge (61, 3 points each)

 Others: 60 to 78

Anagolf Senior Ranking tournament at Cariari

Friday, January 25, is the first senior tournament of 2008.  The cost is $50.00 and there will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m.  The cost includes green fees, lunch (with drinks) and trophies.  Carts and caddies are extra.

Apparently, Anagolf is having problems with their website.  There is not a link on the website to join or sign up for the tournament.  However, I have been assured that if you contact Armando at Anagolf (296-5772) and tell him that you want to join and/or play on Friday, you will be able to pay the membership/entry fee at the course.  Be sure to be there by 7 a.m.

To play in the senior tournaments you must be a member of Anagolf ($50 a year for seniors) and age 50 and over.  If you’re under 50, don’t fret, you lucky people. Last year, the Cariari invited us to play their beautiful course and I believe the CVGA will get another invitation soon. The Cariari is in great shape and they have built new bridges on #8, #9 and #18. I am really looking forward to playing it with my new handicap (today makes six months since I broke my wrist).

Next week’s format

Tuesday, January 29, the format will be stroke play.  The tournament will be flighted and points will be awarded for front nine net, back nine net and overall net.  You will be playing to 100% of your current handicap with the CVGA.

Since this is an individual format you can make your own foursomes and begin play as early as 6:15 a.m.  The last foursome will go off no later than 7:20 a.m. and complete play no later than 12:30 p.m.  Unless there are very special circumstances, any group unable to complete play within five hours will be considered “timed out”, and therefore disqualified.

Guys and gals of the CVGA, your position on the course is directly behind the group in front of you, not directly in front of the group behind you. The people behind you would really appreciate your cooperation

Los Suenos again on February 28

February is a very busy month at Los Suenos, but I have reserved six tee times (space for 24 players) on Thursday, February 28, beginning at 8 a.m.  If you would like to attend, start making plans now.

The cost is $85.00 per player for unlimited golf and cart for the day and lunch is included. I will need to collect the money prior to noon on Tuesday, February 26, and then let Los Suenos know how many of those tee times we will need.

Our arrangement with Los Suenos is a very good deal and we cannot abuse it.  This price is only good for the CVGA members during scheduled tournaments with Los Suenos.  And, as with most golf courses, you will be provided with an ice chest only if you purchase (from them) some drinks for consumption on the course.

Hole in one pool

Today we had 52 players in the pool and there were no holes in one.  The pool for next week is now $2,083.00 USD.  A hole in one must be on a par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome.  Also, the hole in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments.

See you on the course,

David Maddox
