February
12, 2008 - Individual Stableford.
Today we played an
individual stableford and we had forty-three (43) players in
attendance. This tournament was flighted and the A flight (22 players)
had handicaps of 18 and under, while the B flight (21 players) had
handicaps from 19 to 36.
In a stableford
each player gets to reduce his/her gross score by his/her handicap on
each hole (if applicable). If a player were to get a net par (two
points) on each hole he/she would have 18 points on each side and 36
points at the end of play. Also, in a stableford, ties are broken by
points scored on last nine, last six, last three or last hole
(considered to be holes 10-18, 13-18, 16-18 and 18).
Today’s results
(gross, stableford points over 36, and points for POTM and POTY) are:
A Flight

Results from
Monday’s Cariari tournament
Yesterday, twenty
of us played a stableford at the Cariari Country Club. The weather was
windy but the course was in great shape. However, as you will see, the
course beat us up. A few of us went to lunch afterwards, and when I
invited one player to join us, he declined, saying that he going home to
chew on rat poison.
The Cariari results
(gross and stableford points above 36) are:
1st-
Mike Hawkins (86, -5)
2nd- Mike
Daughtry (93, -7)
3rd- Don
Williams (90, -12)
4th- Bill
Hornick (96, -13)
By the way, Bill
survived the rat poison and joined us today. Winning the closest to the
pin contests on #4 and #7 were Adi Tarkay and Mike Daughtry,
respectively.
Next week is the
Texas Scramble
Tuesday, February
19, is the second Texas Scramble of 2008. This will be a three-person
scramble, requiring FIVE drives per player. There will be a shotgun
start at 7:30 a.m., but you must be there before 7 a.m.
The cost per person
is 22 mil (9 mil for players who pay a monthly green fee to Valle Del
Sol). That price will remain in effect for all of 2008 and includes
green fees, drinks on the course, four “long drive” holes (and one for
the ladies), four “closest to the pin” holes, and the “hole in one
pool”. Carts and caddies are not included. After the tournament, there
will be an “all you eat buffet” (at your cost) at Rock & Roll Pollo in
Santa Ana.
As in all Texas
Scrambles, two three-person teams will tee off on each hole and
scorecards will be exchanged. It will be up to the opposing teams to
insure that all rules, drops and number of drives per person are met,
and that the gross scores are properly recorded.
If you are not on
an established team, please come anyway. We are going to have a lot of
extra players, looking to form teams. If you are at the course before 7
a.m., you will be able to play. If we have an odd number of players, we
will have one two-person or one four-person team. If you have any
questions, please call me at 254-0140 or 392-8595.
Hole in one pool
Forty-two players
were entered in the pool today and there were no holes in one. The pool
for next week is $2,272.00 USD. A hole in one must be on a par three
hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome. Also, the hole in one
pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments.
Los Suenos on
February 28
We have six tee
times (space for 24 players) on Thursday, February 28, beginning at 8
a.m. If you would like to attend, start making plans now.
The cost is $85.00
per player for unlimited golf and cart for the day and lunch is
included. I will need to collect the money prior to noon on Tuesday,
February 26, and then let Los Suenos know how many of those tee times we
will need.
Our arrangement with Los Suenos is a
very good deal and we cannot abuse it. This price is only good for the
CVGA members during scheduled tournaments with Los Suenos. And, as with
most golf courses, you will be provided with an ice chest only if you
purchase (from them) some drinks for consumption on the course.
See you on the course,
David Maddox
