A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers, neither of whom can putt very well.

December 16 , 2008 - Individual Modified Stableford

Today, we played an individual modified stableford and we had thirty-four (34) players. It was a beautiful day, carts were allowed everywhere on the course and we had some high winds that affected some scores. In a modified stableford, your handicap determines your target.  A gross bogey is one point, a gross par is two, a gross birdie is four and a gross eagle is eight points

This tournament was flighted and the A flight (17players) had handicaps 17 and under while the B flight (17players) had handicaps 18 and higher.

Today’s results (gross score, points over target, and points towards “player of the month” and “player of the year”) are:

 A Flight

 1st- Nick Costas (81, +6, 6 points)

2nd- Bryan Hopwood (87, +5, 4 points)

3rd- Michael Hawkins (81, +2, 3 points)

4th- Mike Daughtry (83, even, 2 points)

5th- Norman Sklar (93, -3, 1 point)

B Flight

 1st- Jerry Haws (92, +10, 6 points)

2nd- Mike Wallace (91, +6, 4 points)

3rd- Ryan Donahue (92, +6 but lost tiebreaker, 3 points)

4th- Dick MacAuley (91, +5, 2 points)

5th- Joe-B Bolinger (107, +5 but lost tiebreaker, 1 point)

The top four places in each flight will be paid.

Next week’s format

Tuesday, December 23, we will be playing an individual “stableford”.  In a “stableford” your handicap determines the number of strokes (if any) that you get off your gross score on each hole.  In a stableford, a net bogey is one point, a net par is two points, a net birdie is three points, a net eagle is four points and a net double eagle is five points.  If you play to your handicap, you should have 36 points at the end of the round.

You can make your own foursomes and begin play as early as 6:15 a.m.  The last group will tee off no later than 7:20 a.m.  If you are at the course before the last group goes off, you will be able to play.

 Today’s raffle

We have a few prizes from our sponsors that are still available.  We are going to raffle off one per week until they are gone.  Today, the caddie forgot to put out the flag for closest to the pin.  Therefore, we decided to raffle two prizes to those present.

Nick Costas won a $35 gift certificate to Physiohealth and Jeff McLaughlin won a free round of golf for four at Monteran.

 Hole in one pool

The hole in one pool is now $2,236.00 USD. The next person to have a “hole in one” wins that pool (multiple holes in one in the same event will split the money).

A hole in one must be on a par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome.  Also, the hole in one pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments.

See you on the course,

David Maddox
