CVGA Texas Scramble, April 01 2008

Today, the Central Valley Golf Association played a three-person Texas Scramble and we had twenty-four teams.  One of the teams only had two players, so we had seventy-one (71) players in attendance.

Our beverage girls did a great job attending to our players on the course, Coca-Cola had tent on #14 and provided beverages, Alpiste served wine on #9, Texas BBQ served sandwiches on #10 and Segway of Costa Rica had eight of their products (including two golf models) near the putting green for our players to ride. And, we had another hole-in-one winner today.

In today’s event, two opposing teams played together to insure that the rules were followed, the minimum numbers of drives per player (five) were met, and the proper scores were recorded.

Net scores ranged from –13.2 to +.3, and the best gross scores were two –10’s, one –9, and four –7’s.

Today’s results (gross, net, and points towards team of the year) are:

 1st- Calypso (-10, -13.2, 150 points)

2nd- Kick-Ass Coffee (-10, -12.2, 90 points)

3rd- Mac’s American Bar (-6, -12.1, 80 points)

4th- DWD (-9, -11.6, 70 points)

5th- Cuban Boys (-7, -11.3, 60 points)

6th- Time-Out Tavern (-7, -11.1, 50 points)

7th- A Team (-4, -9.8, 40 points)

8th- Chilangos (-7, -9.6, 30 points)

9th- Methes (aka Viagra) (-7, -9.5, 20 points)

10th- Red Dolphins (-5, -9.1, 10 points)

All other teams received ten points towards “team of the year”.  Each member of the first place team was awarded a free round of golf, compliments of Valle Del Sol.  Each member of the second place team received a voucher for an Executive Lunch, compliments of Tony Romas.  The third, fourth and fifth place teams also received a voucher for a free lunch at one of our sponsors (Big Dog’s, Wendy’s, Mac’s American Bar, Time-Out, Tequila Joe’s and/or Rock & Roll Pollo).

A hole in one

Steven Budrys of Team Time-Out Tavern had a hole in one today on #15.  Steve used a 20-degree hybrid to score his very first Ace.  The hole in one was witnessed by John Kendall, Arturo O’Connor, David Tomko, Randy (Dru) Jackson and former caddie Wilbur.

Steve won the pool of $2,500.00 USD and is planning on sharing it with his longtime caddie Nito.  Congratulations Steve.

Los Suenos on Thursday, April 17

We have six tee times (space for 24 players) on Thursday, April 17, beginning at 8 a.m.  If you would like to attend, send me an email or call me at 2254-0140 or 8392-8595, and then pay the green fee by Tuesday, April 15.

The cost is $85.00 per player for unlimited golf and cart for the day and lunch is included. I have to collect the money prior to noon on Tuesday, April 15, and then let Los Suenos know how many of those tee times we will need.

Next week’s format

Tuesday, April 8, we will be playing a two-person best ball.  In this format, each player plays his/her own ball from tee to green, using 100% of his/her handicap as a reduction on each hole (if applicable).  The better net score of the two partners is recorded on each hole.   Players can choose their own partner, but the twelve-stroke rule is in effect.

This tournament will be flighted and the first group will go off #1 at 6:15 a.m.  The last group will go off no later than 7:15 and all players arriving before then will be allowed to join us.

Hole in one pool

The pool for next week is now $407.50. A hole in one must be on a par three hole and witnessed by all those in the foursome.  Multiple holes in one in the same event will split the money and the pool is only available in our Valle Del Sol tournaments.

See you on the course,

David Maddox
